Lamu Cultural Festival in Lamu

An annual four-day celebration of Swahili heritage in UNESCO-listed Lamu Old Town, launched in 2000 and centered on a dhow sailing race through the channel to Shela. The programme also includes swimming races, a donkey race, poetry competitions, football and craft exhibitions, showcasing centuries of Arab, Persian and Indian Ocean influence on Swahili coastal culture through music, dance and traditional sport.
