Lewa Safari Marathon in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
An annual marathon run through Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in northern Kenya, organized since 2000 by the conservation charity Tusk with Lewa and Safaricom. Runners tackle two 20-kilometer loops on dirt safari trails at altitude while sharing the reserve with resident wildlife, including big-five species, under the protection of armed Kenya Wildlife Service rangers, with the event having raised more than ten million US dollars for conservation and community projects.
The Lewa Safari Marathon is an annual fundraising running event held at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in northern Kenya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site roughly 230 kilometers north of Nairobi known for its mix of pristine forest, open grassland, springs and woodland.
