Kapok Flower Festival in Bokeo/Golden Triangle
The Kapok Flower Festival, or Boun Dok Ngiew Ban, celebrates the January and February blooming of red and orange kapok blossoms across roughly forty hectares of forest in Bokeo's Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone. Since its founding in 2000, the event has grown to include a Miss Kapok Flower contest, cultural performances, and Mekong boat races on Don Sao Island.
As kapok trees across Bokeo province burst into bloom, typically across January and February, the Kapok Flower Festival, known locally as Boun Dok Ngiew Ban, transforms the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone into one of northern Laos's most distinctive tourism events.
