Boun Bang Fai Muang Nan in Muang Nan

Villages in Nan district, south of Luang Prabang, hold their own edition of Boun Bang Fai, launching homemade bamboo rockets skyward to plead with the rain spirit Phaya Thaen for a good wet season. The event is smaller and more locally organized than the well-known Vientiane or southern celebrations.

South of Luang Prabang, the farming settlements of Nan district take part in Boun Bang Fai, the rocket festival held across much of Laos to call for rain ahead of the rice-planting season.
