Boun Lai Heua Fai Pakse in Pakse
Pakse's Mekong and Se Don riverbanks glow with candlelit banana-trunk boats as neighborhood temples mark the end of Buddhist Lent. Smaller and more local than the capital's display, Pakse's launches happen ward by ward along the waterfront, often continuing into the boat-racing days that follow.
Pakse sits on the banks of the Mekong and Se Don rivers in southern Laos, and like river towns across the country it marks the end of Buddhist Lent with its own edition of Boun Lai Heua Fai, the Festival of Light Boats.
