Cesis Medieval Festival in Cesis
Cēsis Castle, the best-preserved castle ruins in Latvia and once the most powerful medieval fortress in Livonia, hosts an annual Medieval Festival reenacting daily life from its 800-year history. Knight battle reenactments, period games and crafts, food tastings, and medieval music and dance run alongside costumed castle folk present from May through September, with stalls selling carved instruments, pelts, jewellery and clay pots.
Five hundred years ago, Cēsis Castle was the most powerful fortress in all of Livonia, a stronghold whose walls once dictated the balance of power across a region spanning much of today's Latvia and Estonia.
