Dinaburg 1812 Festival in Daugavpils

The Dinaburg 1812 International Living History Festival recreates Napoleon's 1812 attack on the Dinaburg Fortress at its original site, Daugavpils Fortress. Begun in 2015, the day runs from a noon cannon shot through a reenactor march with wreath-laying, a large-scale afternoon battle reenactment, and an evening Empire Ball with period music. More than 150 reenactors from six countries take part, and the festival draws over 15,000 visitors annually.

Daugavpils Fortress, one of the best-preserved 19th-century fortifications in the Baltic states, carries a specific historical burden: it was the site of Napoleon's 1812 assault on what was then known as the Dinaburg Fortress, a battle during the broader French invasion of Russia that year.
