International Early Music Festival Latvia in Riga and Rundale

The International Early Music Festival brings baroque repertoire to life each midsummer, staging concerts across Riga's churches and concert halls before culminating at Rundāle Palace, the Baroque summer residence built between 1736 and 1768 by Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli for the Duke of Courland. Musicians perform works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Bach and Monteverdi on period instruments, many in period costume.

Baroque music was written for specific rooms - stone churches with long reverberation, or gilded palace halls designed as much for acoustics as for show.
