Riga Opera Festival is the summer showcase of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet, staged each June or July inside Riga's historic opera house. Major opera productions bring together Latvian and international singers for a concentrated season of performances, drawing opera lovers to one of the Baltic's leading classical music institutions during the warmer months when Riga's cultural calendar is at its busiest.
Riga's opera house has stood at the center of the city's cultural life since the nineteenth century, a grand building whose architecture alone signals the seriousness with which Latvia has long treated classical performance.
