The story

WINDSTREAM Spring Festival in Riga

Windstream Spring Festival is Orchestra RIGA's annual classical-music series, running each spring since 2010. The 2026 edition, its 14th, spans March 20 to May 27 under the motto 'Awaken and remember, listen and enjoy', built around five contrasting concerts: an opening concert, a Good Friday programme, a Day of Remembrance concert for victims of the Communist regime, an Easter family concert, and a closing concert spotlighting Spanish music. Deliberately kept small and affordably priced, it favors intimacy over festival-scale spectacle.

Since 2010, Orchestra RIGA has used the arrival of spring in the Latvian capital as the occasion for a different kind of classical-music series, one built on range and restraint rather than scale.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Rather than clustering into a single festival weekend, Windstream stretches across more than two months, giving each of its five concerts room to stand on its own thematic ground rather than blurring into a single generic programme

02

The mystery stays covered

The range is unusually wide for one series: a solemn Day of Remembrance concert for victims of the Communist regime sits alongside a family-oriented Easter concert and a Good Friday programme, before closing with a dedicated spotlight on Spanish music led by composer and conductor Oscar Navarro with violinist Pilar Rubio Albala

03

The city starts moving

Orchestra RIGA's explicit choice to keep the festival small and affordable sets it apart from Latvia's larger summer festival brands and makes it a deliberately accessible entry point into live classical music in Riga
