Rasa Festival in Verkiai/Kernave

The Rasos festival in Verkiai Regional Park near Vilnius has been organized since 1999 by ethnologist Nijole Balciuniene to emphasize the pre-Christian, solstice-timed roots of Lithuanian midsummer tradition. Held on Verkiai High Hill beside the legendary altar of Lizdeika, it features bonfires, ethnographically researched folk rituals, and free admission.

In Verkiai Regional Park on the outskirts of Vilnius, a different strand of the midsummer solstice tradition has been carefully maintained since 1999 by ethnologist Nijole Balciuniene, who organizes the Rasos festival specifically to emphasize the holiday's pre-Christian roots rather than its later Christian overlay as Saint John's feast.
