Macao International Marathon in Macao Peninsula and Taipa route
Macao International Marathon is the territory's largest track-and-field event, first organized in 1981 by the Macao Panda Sports Association and now sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group. Held each early December, the race starts and finishes at the Macau Olympic Complex Stadium, with the full 42.195-kilometre course crossing the Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane alongside half marathon and 5K options.
In 1981, when the Macao Panda Sports Association organized the territory's first international marathon, Macao was still a Portuguese-administered enclave with a fraction of the infrastructure and international profile it has today.
