Karonga Cultural Festival in Karonga
Karonga Cultural Festival, more formally documented as the Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Heritage celebration, is a joint annual event held at the foot of the Mbande Hills in Karonga District in Malawi's far north, bringing together the diverse ethnic communities of Karonga and neighbouring Chitipa districts. Presidents and vice presidents have attended in recent years, with the event framed explicitly as a platform for promoting national unity across Malawi's many tribal and cultural groups.
At the foot of the Mbande Hills in Karonga District, on Malawi's far northern tip near the shores of Lake Malawi and the Tanzanian border, the Karonga-Chitipa Cultural Heritage celebration brings together the ethnic communities of two adjoining districts each year.
