Perlis East Wind Festival in Kangar/Perlis villages
Pesta Angin Timur, or the East Wind Festival, is a three-day event in Malaysia's northernmost state of Perlis, held in a plowed paddy field near villages such as Kampung Oran in Mata Ayer or by the coast at Kuala Perlis. Free to attend, it combines large decorative balloons and kite flying with cultural performances, local food and traditional games that showcase the Malay, Chinese and Thai communities of this Thailand-bordering state.
Perlis, Malaysia's smallest and northernmost state, sits directly against the Thai border, giving it a cultural character shaped by Malay, Chinese and Thai communities living in close proximity in a way not replicated elsewhere in the country.
