Kota Marudu Maize Festival in Kota Marudu
Pesta Jagung, the Maize Festival, is held annually in early November in the district of Kota Marudu, about two hours from Kota Kinabalu, celebrating the economic and cultural importance of corn to the area's predominantly Kadazandusun and Rungus farming communities. The festival features corn-based cooking competitions, a Ratu Jagung (Corn Queen) pageant, craft and lantern competitions, and traditional sports such as tug-of-war.
Pesta Jagung, or the Maize Festival, is held each year in the district of Kota Marudu, located roughly 130 kilometers, or about a two-hour drive, from Kota Kinabalu in northern Sabah.
