Kuala Penyu Sago Festival in Kuala Penyu
Pesta Rumbia, the Sago Festival, is held annually at the start of July in the Kuala Penyu district of Sabah, typically at Sawangan Beach, celebrating the central role of sago in the daily diet and traditional life of the area's Bisaya and Kadazan communities. The festival highlights the many uses of the sago palm, from its bark and fronds used in building materials to its pulp processed into a rice substitute, alongside a Sago Buffet and Sago Beauty Queen pageant.
