Penang Bridge International Marathon in Penang Bridge
The Penang Bridge International Marathon traces its roots to 1982, when it began as a road race from the Esplanade to Gurney Drive, later moving onto the Penang Bridge itself in 1986 shortly after the bridge opened. Rebranded and revived in 2006 as a combination of two earlier race traditions, the marathon relocated from 2024 to Batu Kawan, now running across the newer Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge with ASPEN Vision City as its start and finish point.
The Penang Bridge International Marathon's history stretches back to 1982, when the event began not as a bridge race at all but as a road race between the Esplanade and Gurney Drive, then known simply as the Penang International Marathon.
