Pesta San Pedro in Portuguese Settlement
Pesta San Pedro, or Fiesta San Pedro, is an annual Catholic feast honoring St Peter, patron saint of fishermen, celebrated by Melaka's Kristang Portuguese-Eurasian community at the Portuguese Settlement. The main feast day falls on June 29, preceded by a week of festivities, and includes a Mass, procession, and blessing of decorated fishing boats along the settlement's waterfront.
The Portuguese Settlement in Melaka is home to a community descended from Portuguese colonial settlers who arrived after Melaka's conquest in 1511, and from generations of intermarriage with local Malay and other Southeast Asian communities, producing a distinct Kristang culture with its own Portuguese-derived Creole language, cuisine, and Catholic religious traditions.
