Rolex Middle Sea Race in Grand Harbour
The Rolex Middle Sea Race is a 606 nautical mile offshore sailing race that has started from Valletta's Grand Harbour since being conceived in 1968, sending its fleet anticlockwise around Sicily, past Mount Etna, the Straits of Messina, Stromboli and the Egadi Islands, south past Lampedusa, and back to Malta. The 47th edition starts on 17 October 2026, with the free public start viewable from Valletta's bastions and Barrakka Gardens.
Malta's Grand Harbour has been welcoming and dispatching ships for longer than almost anywhere else in the Mediterranean, its deep natural anchorage sheltering everything from Knights-era galleys to modern container vessels over the centuries.
