Feast of Santa Marija Mqabba in Mqabba
The Feast of Santa Marija, celebrated on 15 August in Mqabba, marks the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in a town internationally known for its fireworks factories and pyrotechnic expertise. The feast combines a statue procession and church decoration with what is often regarded as one of the most technically accomplished fireworks displays among Malta's many simultaneous 15 August celebrations.
Mqabba sits inland on Malta's southern plateau, its skyline shaped as much by former limestone quarries as by its parish church, and the town has built a reputation among Maltese festa enthusiasts specifically for the quality of its fireworks.
