The story

Dance Festival Malta in Valletta

Dance Festival Malta is a multidisciplinary dance event held over four days each July in Valletta, now reaching its fifth edition in 2026, offering workshops, masterclasses and performances that bring international choreographers together with Maltese dance students and professionals. Venues include the Valletta Campus Theatre, Spazju Kreattiv and the historic Manoel Theatre.

Malta has never had the scale of population to sustain a large standing professional dance company or conservatory system the way bigger European nations do, which historically meant ambitious Maltese dancers had to leave the island to find serious training.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Unlike a purely spectator dance festival, this event is built around training as much as performance, giving Malta's relatively small professional dance community direct access to intensive workshops and masterclasses led by international artists that would otherwise require travel abroad to access

02

The mystery stays covered

Staging performances in Teatru Manoel, one of Europe's oldest working theatres, alongside contemporary spaces like Spazju Kreattiv also lets the festival move fluidly between classical and cutting-edge presentation contexts within a single programme
