Ghanja tal-Poplu in Valletta

L-Ghanja tal-Poplu, the People's Ode Song Contest, is Malta's longest-running original Maltese-language song competition, first organised on 5 May 1973 by the Youth Travel Circle at St Albert College in Valletta. Now held in mid-summer at Pjazza Teatru Rjal with the Malta Concert Orchestra, it has run continuously since its founding under Dun Maurice Mifsud.

On the 5th of May 1973, inside St Albert College in Valletta, a youth organisation called the Youth Travel Circle held a song contest that nobody involved likely expected to still be running more than fifty years later.
