Valletta Early Opera Festival in Valletta
The Valletta Early Opera Festival stages rarely performed works from the early opera canon at Teatru Manoel, Europe's oldest continuously working theatre, dating to 1731. Under artistic director Kenneth Zammit Tabona, recent editions have included Mozart's teenage opera Il Re Pastore, led by conductor Giulio Prandi, alongside an international cast and creative team.
Teatru Manoel opened its doors in 1731, commissioned by Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena to give Valletta a proper theatre of its own, and it has operated continuously ever since, making it one of the oldest working theatres anywhere in Europe.
