Marshall Islands Constitution Day Celebrations in Majuro
Constitution Day, also called Jemenei Day, is observed May 1 in the Marshall Islands to commemorate the 1979 adoption of the country's Constitution and the self-governance it restored. Majuro marks the day with a parade of colorful floats, traditional dances, stick dances, singing competitions, navigation demonstrations and the Jilel Ejmour outrigger canoe race.
Constitution Day, also known locally as Jemenei Day, holds a distinct place among the Marshall Islands' national holidays: it commemorates a specific political achievement rather than a seasonal or purely cultural occasion.
