The story

La Ferme Trail in Bambous/La Ferme Reservoir

La Ferme Trail is an annual technical trail race organized by Rando-Trail and Nature around La Ferme Reservoir near Bambous in western Mauritius, and counts as a stage of the Mauritius Trail Running League. Runners choose between Ti La Ferme, a 12 kilometer short course, and the long course, which has grown to roughly 22 to 24 kilometers with over a thousand meters of elevation gain.

La Ferme Trail has earned its place as one of the more demanding fixtures on the Mauritius Trail Running League calendar, built around La Ferme Reservoir near the town of Bambous in the island's western interior.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

This race has built a reputation among Mauritian trail runners as one of the toughest stages on the island's circuit, combining a climb up Corps de Garde mountain with a second ascent of Montagne St-Pierre in the same outing, linked by canefields, forest passes, and a stretch along the La Ferme Reservoir dam wall

02

The mystery stays covered

Because the course follows the reservoir's shoreline and surrounding vegetation, it shifts slightly from year to year depending on water levels, giving the race a changeable character even for repeat participants

03

The city starts moving

With only one emergency water point on the long course and mandatory carry-your-own water and phone rules, it demands genuine self-sufficiency, and its steep, often muddy descents have earned it a reputation as unsuitable for inexperienced trail runners
