The story

Bostaniada in Balabanesti/rotating

Bostaniada, the Pumpkin Festival, first ran in October 2012 in Lozova before establishing Balabanesti in the Criuleni district as its main venue. Held each September, the ethno-gastronomic celebration displays more than 20 tons of pumpkins, features pumpkin pies and traditional dishes, folk-craft exhibits and a competition for the largest pumpkin in Moldova, promoting rural tourism.

Every rural harvest calendar needs a signature crop to rally around, and in the Criuleni district of Moldova, that role belongs to the pumpkin.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Bostaniada's identity rests on sheer material abundance, with more than 20 tons of pumpkins on display transforming the festival grounds into something closer to an agricultural spectacle than a typical craft fair

02

The mystery stays covered

The largest-pumpkin competition adds a direct, visually striking centerpiece that gives the event a clear focal attraction beyond general browsing, drawing growers eager to test their harvest against the rest of the country

03

The city starts moving

Having relocated from its 2012 debut in Lozova to a lasting home in Balabanesti shows the festival evolving toward a more permanent regional identity within the Criuleni district

04

The water draws everyone in

Pairing pumpkin-based dishes and traditional food with folk-craft exhibits also roots the celebration in a broader rural culinary and craft tradition rather than treating the pumpkin as a novelty gimmick
