International Music Festival Martisor in Chisinau
The International Music Festival Martisor has opened Chisinau's spring season since 1966, running March 1 to 10 each year with concerts spanning symphonic music, opera, ballet, chamber recitals and special collaborative projects. The 2026 edition marks the 60th anniversary, extended through March 12, opening at the National Palace Nicolae Sulac under the theme The Joy of Being Together and featuring more than 20 separate events.
When the International Music Festival Martisor opened for the first time in 1966, Chisinau was marking the arrival of spring the way the region always had, through the Martisor custom of small tokens and seasonal celebration, but organizers chose to give that transition a musical counterpart that would return every March.
