Festival des Andalousies Atlantiques in Essaouira
Festival des Andalousies Atlantiques is an annual celebration in Essaouira, Morocco, of the shared musical and cultural heritage linking Morocco and Andalusian Spain. Running since 2003, the festival explores a civilization enriched by Muslim, Jewish and Christian contributions and its lasting influence across North Africa, Spain and Latin America, bringing more than a hundred artists from Morocco, Spain, France and the Netherlands together each autumn.
Festival des Andalousies Atlantiques began in 2003 in Essaouira with an ambitious premise: that Andalusian civilization, the cultural and intellectual world that flourished in Muslim Spain and its neighboring regions, deserved sustained public exploration rather than a single commemorative event.
