Festival Jazz MOZITA in Maputo

The Mozita 50 Jazz Festival, held in Maputo to mark 50 years of Mozambique-Italy diplomatic relations, is organized by the Italian Embassy with the Moreira Chonguica Foundation, artistic direction shared between Italian musician Enzo Favata and Mozambican musician Moreira Chonguica. Over four days the festival staged concerts, jam sessions and workshops across three venues, the Maputo Cathedral, the Radio Mocambique Auditorium Studio and the gardens of Parque dos Cronistas, bringing Italian and Mozambican jazz musicians together on shared bills.

In 2025, as Mozambique and Italy marked the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, the Italian Embassy in Maputo chose jazz as one of its central cultural vehicles for the commemoration, producing the Mozita 50 Jazz Festival in partnership with the Moreira Chonguica Foundation, named for the prominent Mozambican saxophonist and cultural organizer.
