Olufuko Festival in Outapi
The Olufuko Festival is an annual celebration in Outapi, northern Namibia, that revives elements of an older Aawambo womanhood initiation for young women. Officially launched in 2012 under the patronage of founding president Sam Nujoma, today's festival combines cultural education, traditional skills demonstrations and tourism promotion under the slogan Our Heritage Our Pride.
In Outapi, a town in Namibia's Omusati Region, an old Aawambo tradition was given new public life in August 2012, when founding president Sam Nujoma officially opened the first modern Olufuko Festival.
