The story

Down The Rabbit Hole in Beuningen

Down The Rabbit Hole is a three-day music festival held each July at the Groene Heuvels holiday park near Beuningen. Originally a spin-off of the larger Lowlands festival, it now draws roughly 35,000 attendees to a rolling landscape of hills, forests and meadows for indie, alternative and world music, sold only as full weekend passes.

Each July, a holiday park called Groene Heuvels, or Green Hills, near the small Gelderland town of Beuningen becomes home to Down The Rabbit Hole, a three-day music festival that grew out of the much larger Lowlands festival but chose to stay deliberately smaller.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Down The Rabbit Hole grew out of Lowlands, one of the Netherlands' largest festivals, but deliberately stayed smaller and more intimate, capping attendance around 35,000 rather than expanding toward mass-festival scale

02

The mystery stays covered

The rolling terrain of hills, forest and meadow at Groene Heuvels gives the site a distinctly landscaped, almost storybook feel that sets it apart from flatter Dutch festival grounds, reinforcing the Alice in Wonderland-inspired name

03

The city starts moving

Programming favors indie, alternative and world music curated with the same sensibility that shaped Lowlands, alongside literary and cultural programming beyond music alone

04

The water draws everyone in

Selling only full-weekend passes rather than day tickets keeps the crowd oriented around the complete camping experience rather than single-day visits
