Delft Lights Evening in Delft

Lichtjesavond, or Delft Lights Evening, is the annual event that opens the winter season in Delft's historic city center. Held on the second Tuesday of December, the evening fills the old town with hundreds of small lights, a winter market, choirs, and street performers from late afternoon into the night, launching the wider Delft Verlicht program that continues into January.

Delft's city center is one of the best-preserved in the Netherlands, its canals and brick facades dating largely from the Golden Age when the city was a center for trade, ceramics, and the paintings of Johannes Vermeer.
