Dordrecht Christmas Market in Dordrecht
Dordrecht's December centerpiece is the Dickens Festijn, the world's largest Charles Dickens-themed festival, held over a mid-December weekend alongside Christmas market stalls throughout the historic center. Around a thousand costumed characters drawn from Dickens's novels and Victorian England fill the old town's streets, canals and squares for two festive days.
Dordrecht, the oldest city in Holland with a historic center of canals, gabled merchant houses and cobblestone streets that has survived largely intact, makes an unusually convincing stand-in for Victorian London each December when it hosts the Dickens Festijn, widely described as the largest Charles Dickens-themed festival in the world.
