Nijmegen Winter Weeks in Nijmegen
Nijmeegse Winterweken, or Nijmegen Winter Weeks, is an annual multi-week winter event that fills the city's downtown with light sculptures, music, and family activities from mid-December through the first days of January. Now in its later editions after launching in the late 2010s, the festival includes a themed light route through the historic center and a costumed Winter Wonder Parade.
Nijmegen, generally regarded as the oldest city in the Netherlands, with roots reaching back to a Roman settlement on the Waal river, has in recent years developed its own answer to the winter light festivals that have become popular across Dutch cities in December and January.
