North Sea Jazz Festival fills Rotterdam Ahoy every July with three days of jazz, soul, funk and world music spread across roughly fifteen indoor stages. Founded in The Hague in 1976 and based in Rotterdam since 2006, it calls itself the world's largest indoor music festival, drawing about 80,000 visitors and more than a thousand musicians each edition.
North Sea Jazz Festival began in The Hague in 1976, when organizer Paul Acket gathered a lineup built around Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz and drew about 9,000 visitors to a single hall.
