Awakenings Festival in Spaarnwoude

Awakenings Festival is a multi-day techno festival held each summer at the Houtrak site within Spaarnwoude recreational park, near Amsterdam. Founded by Rocco Veenboer in 2001, it has grown into one of the world's most respected electronic dance music events, hosting internationally renowned techno and house artists across multiple outdoor stages.

In 2001, at a time when electronic dance music in the Netherlands was still fighting for the same cultural legitimacy as rock or pop, Rocco Veenboer founded Awakenings with a narrower ambition than most festival organizers: build an event entirely around techno and house music, and treat it with the seriousness other genres already received.
