Utrecht Early Music Festival in Utrecht
Festival Oude Muziek, known in English as the Utrecht Early Music Festival, fills the city each late August and early September with more than 250 concerts of music from the medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Performed on period instruments in churches, concert halls and courtyards, it is widely regarded as the world's largest festival devoted to early music.
Festival Oude Muziek grew out of a specialist scene long overshadowed by mainstream classical programming: early music performed on the instruments and in the styles for which it was originally written, rather than adapted for modern orchestras.
