Akaroa French Festival in Akaroa
Held every two years in the only town New Zealand's French settlers ever founded, the Akaroa French Festival, known locally as French Fest, is a three-day celebration on Banks Peninsula tracing to the 1840s arrival of the ship Comte de Paris, with its next edition set for 9-11 October 2026.
Akaroa's connection to France dates to the 1840s, when a group of French and German settlers sailed for Banks Peninsula aboard the ship Comte de Paris intending to establish a French colony in New Zealand.
