Auckland Round the Bays in Auckland
Auckland Round the Bays is an 8.4 kilometre fun run along Auckland's waterfront, first held in 1972 and now part of a three-city series with Wellington and Christchurch. Open to runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchair participants, it draws well over 30,000 entrants in Auckland alone, many in costume, with proceeds raised for charity.
In March 1972, around seven hundred people gathered in Auckland for a new kind of event: a fun run along the city's waterfront, open to anyone regardless of running ability.
