Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival in Hamilton
The Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival, now branded Hamilton Arts Festival, is a February programme of music, theatre, comedy and cabaret staged inside Hamilton Gardens and at venues across the city. Running annually since 1998, it uses the gardens' themed outdoor rooms as performance settings, with recent editions featuring around fifty events and hundreds of participating artists.
Hamilton Gardens began in 1960 as a city park built on what had previously been used for waste disposal, an unpromising origin for what has since become the Waikato region's leading visitor attraction.
