Taranaki Garden Festival in Taranaki
Started in 1987 as the Rhododendron Festival, the Taranaki Garden Festival, now sponsor-branded the Centuria Taranaki Garden Festival, opens more than 40 private and public gardens across the region each spring, run by the Taranaki Arts Festival Trust over a roughly ten-day spring garden programme.
The Taranaki Garden Festival traces back to 1987, when it began under the name the Rhododendron Festival, a name that reflected the region's particular strength in growing rhododendrons in its mild, moist climate.
