Warbirds Over Wanaka in Wanaka
Warbirds Over Wanaka is a biennial Easter-weekend airshow at Wanaka Airport pairing privately owned historic warbirds with modern RNZAF, RAAF, and USAF aircraft. Founded in 1988 by aviation figure Sir Tim Wallis, it is described as the largest warbirds airshow in the Southern Hemisphere, drawing crowds of 60,000 to 70,000 over the weekend.
Warbirds Over Wanaka began in 1988 as the vision of Sir Tim Wallis, a Central Otago aviation entrepreneur and helicopter operator who wanted to bring historic military aircraft together with a country fair atmosphere in his home region.
