Ofala Aguleri in Aguleri
Ofala Aguleri, locally known as the Ovala Festival, is Aguleri's royal renewal ceremony held on the first Eke market day of the year, honoring the town's Igwe and drawing visiting dignitaries and neighboring village leaders. Aguleri traces its ancestry to Eri, considered the father of the Igbo race in local tradition.
Aguleri holds a particular place in Igbo oral history: local tradition identifies the town as connected to Eri, regarded as the founding ancestor of the Igbo race, a lineage it shares with related communities like Nri and Umueri under the broader Umu-Eri identity.
