Osun Ikire Festival in Ikire
The Osun Ikire Festival is a river-deity celebration held in Ikire, a Yoruba town in Osun State along the Osun River system, honoring Osun, the orisha associated with fertility, beauty, and fresh water, in a local tradition related to but distinct from the internationally known Osun-Osogbo festival.
The Osun River winds through a string of Yoruba towns in Osun State, and while the city of Osogbo has become the most internationally recognized site of devotion to Osun, the orisha understood in Yoruba tradition as a river goddess linked to fertility, beauty, and abundance, worship of Osun is not confined to any single town along the river's course.
