Iri Ji Mbaise in Mbaise
Iri Ji Mbaise is the annual new yam festival of the Mbaise people of Imo State, held each August to mark the yam harvest. Rooted in oral tradition with no fixed founding date, the celebration centers on offering the first yams to ancestors and the earth spirit before the wider community eats from the new crop.
Every August, the communities that make up Mbaise in Imo State turn their attention to the yam barns.
