Ofala Nnewi is the annual royal renewal ceremony of the Igwe of Nnewi, part of the wider Ofala tradition practiced across Onitsha, Nnewi, Aguleri, Umuoji and other Igbo communities in Anambra State. Rooted in 16th-century Onitsha custom, it marks the ceremonial reappearance of the king after a period of ritual seclusion.

The Ofala tradition carries oral history back to the 16th century, when Igbo communities including Onitsha are said to have emigrated from Benin to the eastern banks of the River Niger, bringing with them the custom of centralized monarchy and the ceremonial practices that came with it.
