Igogo Festival Owo in Owo
The Igogo Festival in Owo, Ondo State, is a major annual celebration honoring Oronsen, a legendary queen whose story is central to Owo's royal history. During the festival, the Olowo, Owo's traditional ruler, dresses in female attire and performs rites recalling Oronsen's life and eventual transformation, in one of Yorubaland's most distinctive royal ceremonies.
Owo, a historic Yoruba town in Ondo State with its own distinct royal lineage under the Olowo, holds one of the most visually and narratively distinctive festivals anywhere in Yorubaland each year in the form of Igogo.
