Vojdan Chernodrinski Theatre Festival in Prilep
The Vojdan Chernodrinski Theatre Festival is North Macedonia's national professional theatre competition, held annually in Prilep, the birthplace of playwright Vojdan Chernodrinski (1875-1951), author of the seminal drama Macedonian Bloody Wedding. National and municipal theatres bring their strongest productions to compete for honors in performance, direction and acting, making the festival a yearly showcase of the country's contemporary stage work anchored in its dramatic literary heritage.
Prilep is a town of few claims to fame beyond its role as the birthplace of Vojdan Chernodrinski, and the town has built one of its enduring cultural institutions around that fact.
