Vodno-Matka Trail Marathon in Skopje/Matka
The Vodno-Matka Trail Marathon is a trail-running event first held in 2018, based at the Makedonsko Selo ethno-complex in Gorno Nerezi, Skopje. Offering Sprint (18K), Classic (30K) and Ultra (50K) distances, the roughly 75 percent unpaved course connects Mount Vodno with Matka Canyon through steep, technical terrain past old monasteries and churches, with the 2026 edition scheduled for April 5.
Skopje sits between two prominent natural features, Mount Vodno rising above the city and Matka Canyon carved by the Treska River to its southwest, both long popular with hikers and day-trippers from the capital.
