What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Staging classical Greek drama within the actual ruins of an ancient amphitheatre at Stobi, a significant Roman-era archaeological site, gives this festival a direct physical connection between the plays performed and the historical world that produced comparable works, an experience distinct from watching antique drama in a modern theatre

02

The mystery stays covered

Illuminated evening performances at the site add to that historical atmosphere

03

The city starts moving

The festival's mix of canonical playwrights, Aeschylus, Sophocles and Aristophanes, with newly commissioned works keeps the program from being purely a heritage reenactment, while its competitive awards for best play, director and actor and its roster of participating companies from Serbia, Turkiye, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Greece and North Macedonia give it genuine international standing within the niche field of antique drama festivals
